Impulse Overload
Impulse Overload (IO) is one of Exxentric’s methods for eccentric overload using flywheel training on the kBox.
Summary
A more extreme variation of the Delayed Eccentric Action for the kBox where you position yourself in the eccentric phase when you are unloaded and let the load hit you which gives a really high overload in that angle.
How to do it
Pull out some extra belt so in the top position at the end of the concentric phase, the motion isn’t reversed directly. This will give you some extra time to position yourself in the position where you want the eccentric load to hit you. Spotter assistance is recommended.
When you can use it
- Most leg exercises using harness or belt.
- Can be used with upper body drills too but better options exists for overload here (see Overloaded Concentric Action and CLAC).
Good for
Sport-specific training and targeting deceleration strength in a certain angle for example catch-phase in an olympic lift, alpine skiing, jumpers. We offer sport specific education on demand.
Cons
Limited usage in wider populations because of the intense load.
